Afghanistan Test captain Rahmat Shah remarked on his team’s performance following the match. He was pleased with how his team implemented their pre-planned strategy throughout the Test.
Afghanistan drew their only Test against Bangladesh, which took place from October 9 to 13, 2026, at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Chasing Bangladesh’s 479-run target, Afghanistan batted for 142 overs across two innings to win. The visitors concluded their second innings on 346 for 8, and the last day was decisive, as they spent 92 overs at the crease to deny Bangladesh victory.
Bangladesh’s bowling attack weakened Afghanistan’s opening innings, as the visitors were bowled out for 240. Hasan Mahmud took a hat-trick, while Ebadot Hossain took four. However, Rahmat Shah resilient 105 in that innings laid the groundwork for the team’s comeback.
Sediqullah Atal’s first century and final-day approach
Sediqullah Atal’s marathon century was critical to Afghanistan’s fight in the second innings. The hitter scored 111 from 332 balls, including nine fours and three sixes, to earn his first Test century. Rahmat Shah cited Atal’s effort as a vital aspect in achieving the draw, highlighting how the young batsman adjusted after returning from T20 cricket.
In the second inning, several batters contributed to the draw. Rahmat Shah praised the batting lineup’s combined effort, with two centuries hit in the match, multiple half-centuries, and crucial partnerships formed during the Test.
The final-day approach was vital in securing the outcome. Afghanistan’s batsmen took a patient approach, focusing on occupying the crease rather than aggressive scoring.
