On October 13, 2026, the Johannesburg Super Kings announced Allan Donald as their bowling coach for the SA20 2027 season. The famed South African fast bowler, aged 59, replaces Eric Simons, who departed to work in Stephen Fleming’s backroom in England.
Allan Donald joins a new JSK coaching program. following Fleming left the squad following the 2026 season, Albie Morkel was named head coach on July 30, 2026. Donald will now collaborate with Morkel as the squad prepares for the next season.
Prior to the SA20 2027 auction on October 7, 2026, JSK maintained a core group of players. The squad is holding back several players for the 2018 season, including Faf du Plessis, Wiaan Mulder, Jason Rowles, Dayyan Galiem, Kieron Pollard, Blessing Muzarabani, and Andries Gous.
What does Allan Donald offer the JSK bowling team?
Among former fast bowlers, Allan Donald has one of the longest coaching careers. Before becoming Warwickshire’s head coach in 2008, he was England’s bowling consultant in 2007. Following that, he served as New Zealand’s bowling coach during the 2011 World Cup. He later joined South Africa and remained in that role until the 2015 World Cup.
In addition to his international responsibilities, Allan Donald has worked in franchise cricket for Kent in county cricket and Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Pune Warriors India in the Indian Premier League. He most recently coached Bangladesh’s fast bowling squad until the 2022 T20 World Cup. He is a well-traveled addition to the JSK team, with vast experience across formats, locations, and franchise circumstances.
What is JSK’s recent record, and why did Eric Simons depart?
Eric Simons’ decision to join Stephen Fleming’s new backroom staff in England is related to his departure from JSK. With the exception of the coaching change, the team has provided no formal explanation for Fleming’s departure or Simons’ subsequent relocation.

JSK has not yet won the SA20 Championship. The squad finished fourth in both the 2025 and 2026 seasons, and the addition of Donald and Morkel to the coaching staff marks a significant shift as the team looks to improve on those results in 2027.
