Beginning with the forthcoming season, Mohit Sharma, a former pacer for India, will assume the role of bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings. The position is a significant advancement for the 37-year-old, who declared his retirement from all cricket formats in December 2025. Sharma’s playing career, which included significant appearances in numerous IPL seasons and represented India in international cricket, has provided him with a wealth of expertise.
According to CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, the head coach recommended Mohit Sharma for the position, and Viswanathan confirmed the information. Sharma will succeed Eric Simmons, the team’s previous bowling coach. The decision illustrates CSK’s confidence in Sharma’s ability to lead the bowling unit and his understanding of the game.
Mohit Sharma’s playing career serves as evidence that he is qualified for the coaching role. By claiming 134 wickets in 120 IPL matches, he solidified his status as one of the competition’s most reliable fast bowlers. Sharma made a significant impact during his two-year tenure with CSK, particularly during the 2014 season, during which he won the Purple Cap and took 23 wickets.
Mohit Sharma’s playing record and IPL experience
Following his departure from CSK, Mohit Sharma played for the Punjab Kings from 2016 to 2018 and subsequently the Gujarat Titans, during which time he amassed 41 wickets over the course of two seasons. His most recent IPL assignment was with the Delhi Capitals prior to his departure from professional cricket. Sharma played for India in 26 ODIs and 8 T20Is at the international level, securing 31 and 6 wickets, respectively.

The appointment was intended to be implemented in its entirety during the forthcoming IPL season.
