Aiden Markram, South Africa’s leading batsman in the Durban Test, missed both training sessions at St George’s Park and did not accompany the team from Durban to Gqeberha after the first game. However, he is expected to play in the second game and will be available on Saturday.
Although it appears that they would only use one spinner, Harmer’s positioning at second slip does not necessarily imply that he will be chosen over Keshav Maharaj. Senuran Muthusamy is South Africa’s third option.
He is anticipated to be in the starting lineup for the second Test on Sunday and will most likely attend optional training on Saturday.
While he was away, South Africa’s slip cordon consisted of David Bedingham, Simon Harmer (who replaced Aiden Markram at second slip), Wiaan Mulder, and Marco Jansen. While Verryenne assisted with throwdowns, Ryan Rickelton, who has been named the replacement gloveman for Kyle Verreynne, practiced wearing a floppy hat.
Aiden Markram is set to arrive in the city on Friday nite after going home for personal reasons.
Rickleton conducted a lengthy wicket-keeping practice session for the second day in a row, followed by an equally lengthy batting practice. Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Mulder, and Jansen faced Matthew Breetzke and Marques Ackerman, who are set to replace Rickelton, who will lower down the lineup, and Tristan Stubbs, who has been dropped.

More crucially, after undergoing treatment for his shoulder during the first Test, South African fans will be relieved to see Aiden Markram available. That was described as tightness, and it was handled on the field. In addition, he missed the first ODI for personal reasons and returned home early from the Hundred. Markram has committed to be fully available for this game and any future ones, if no injuries occur.
