India’s skipper, Shreyas Iyer, has revealed his approach for the upcoming five-match Twenty20 International series against the West Indies, which begins in Lucknow on October 6. Iyer will captain the team, with Tilak Varma serving as vice captain. The series will have five games at Lucknow, Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
In a lecture given prior to the series, Shreyas Iyer emphasised the need of creating an environment in which participants feel free to demonstrate their natural skills without fear of failure or uncertainty. He believes that restricting inclinations keep a team from realising its full potential.
Shreyas Iyer captaincy approach for the series is built on his emphasis on bravery and internal support.
He believes that when players feel supported by their teammates and leadership and have faith in their instincts, they perform at their peak. The captain’s plan prioritises creating an environment in which players feel comfortable expressing their natural abilities without second-guessing themselves or worrying about what others think.

Prioritising series above early experiments
Instead of experimenting with different playing combinations immediately away, Shreyas Iyer is still focused on winning the series. He believes that making too many changes too early in a series can make players doubt their chances of being chosen and undermine team togetherness.
